Control from One Location
: A single-pole switch controls a light, fan, or other electrical devices from a single location. This is the key characteristic that defines it as “single-pole.”
Two Terminal Screws :They typically have two terminal screws on the side of the switch. One is for the incoming (hot) wire, which brings electricity from the power source, and the other is for the outgoing wire, which leads to the device being controlled.
Breaks the Hot Wire : In a single-pole switch, only the hot wire (live wire) is connected and disconnected by the switch. The neutral wire remains untouched and connected to the load (light, fan, etc.) at all times.
